Neem Soap
Select sizeThe plant
Made by the traditional slow method from organic and wildcrafted plant oils and butters, with neem oil as the signature ingredient, then cured for four to six weeks. The characteristic smell comes from the neem itself and does not wash out of the bar.
What's in it
Neem oil, plant oils and butters, and wildcrafted botanicals. No synthetic detergents, no synthetic fragrance, no preservatives and no added colour.
Azadirachtin and nimbin
Limonoids from the neem oil.
Organosulphur compounds
The source of the smell. Characteristic of genuine neem.
Plant oils and butters
The body of the bar.
Glycerin
Formed as the soap sets and left in rather than stripped out.
How it works
The oils in the bar are transformed as the soap forms, but neem's smell survives, because the organosulphur compounds that carry it are not fats and are not consumed in the process. That is why a real neem bar smells of neem, and a bar that smells only of perfume probably contains very little. The smell is the honest indicator here.
In the tradition
Neem has been used on skin across India for centuries, and neem soap is a standard household item across the subcontinent.
The smell is the honest indicator.
