Frequently asked questions

The things people ask most often.

How should I store what I have bought?

Dried herbs, powders and teas keep best sealed, dry, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. The resealable pouch they arrive in is designed for exactly that — press the air out before you close it.

Oils and butters are happiest somewhere cool. Sea moss gel and anything else sold in a jar should go in the fridge once opened.

How long does it keep?

Dried leaf and flower material is at its best within a year; roots, barks and seeds keep longer. A best-before date is printed on every pack.

Aroma is the honest test. A herb that no longer smells of anything has lost most of what you bought it for.

Can you tell me what to take for a condition?

No, and we would be breaking the law if we tried. We are a retailer, not a clinician, and we cannot recommend a plant for a condition, advise on a dose for you personally, or tell you whether something will interact with your medication.

A doctor, a pharmacist or a registered medical herbalist can do all three, and will give you a better answer than we can. Every plant page here carries its traditional preparation and its cautions so you can take that information to them.

Can I collect instead of paying for delivery?

Yes. Choose Click & collect in the basket and there is no delivery charge. You pay online as normal and pick the order up from the shop during opening hours.

We email you when it is packed and ready, and hold it for 14 days.

Do you ship outside the UK?

Not through the website at the moment. Email herbishire@gmail.com with what you want and where it is going and we will quote you the postage.

What if I am pregnant, breastfeeding or on medication?

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using any herbal product. A number of the plants listed here are specifically not suitable during pregnancy, and where that is the case it is stated on the plant’s own page.

Can I ask about a specific batch?

Yes. Quote the batch number printed on your pack when you email herbishire@gmail.com and we will tell you what we hold for it, including a supplier certificate of analysis where one exists.
