Herbishire — Herbs & Holistic Health

100% organic & wildcrafted

What those two words actually mean here, and how every order is put together.

What organic means

Organic material is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers. For a dried herb that matters more than it does for most foods, because you are steeping the whole leaf or root in hot water and drinking what comes out of it — anything the plant was sprayed with goes into the cup with everything else.

Where a product carries organic certification, the certifying body and licence number are shown on the pack. Where material is wildcrafted rather than certified organic, we describe it as wildcrafted rather than implying certification it does not hold.

What wildcrafted means

Wildcrafted material is gathered from where the plant grows naturally rather than from cultivated rows. Wild plants often develop stronger constituents than cultivated ones, because they have had to compete for light, water and defence against pests without help.

It also carries a responsibility. Over-collection is a real problem for several species, so wildcrafted only works where harvesting leaves the population able to recover. Where a plant carries a conservation issue, that is stated on its own page rather than buried here.

Every batch hand packed

Every order is weighed and packed by hand, not run through an automated line. It is slower, and it means someone actually looks at the material going into your bag.

What we are not claiming

We are a retailer of botanicals, not a laboratory and not a pharmacy. We do not run our own potency assays, and we do not describe anything here as clinically proven. Where a supplier provides certificates of analysis we keep them on file and will share the relevant one if you ask about a specific batch.
