Accessibility
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at level AA. That is the standard UK public bodies must meet, and it is a reasonable bar for a shop as well.
In practice that means: every page can be used with a keyboard alone, every control has a visible focus outline, body text meets contrast requirements against its background, images carry alternative text, and text can be enlarged to 200% without the layout breaking.
Known gaps
Most plant pages currently use our logo as a placeholder in place of a photograph. That is announced correctly to a screen reader as a brand mark rather than described as a plant, but it does mean many pages have no photograph yet.
Some long plant monographs are dense reading. We are working on clearer summaries at the top of each.
Tell us
If any part of this site is difficult to use, email herbishire@gmail.com and describe what happened and what you were using. We will fix what we can and tell you honestly when something will take longer.
If you would rather place an order by email or by phone than through the site, we are happy to do that.
