The plant

The named oil comes from the seeds, processed into oil of Ricinus communis.

What's in it

Ricinoleic acid—a natural fatty acid contribute to the ingredient’s texture.

Ricinoleic acid

Around ninety per cent of the oil — a proportion no other oil approaches.

Hydroxyl group

The feature that makes ricinoleic acid unusual and the oil so viscous.

Oleic and linoleic acids

The small remaining fraction.

Ricin

In the raw seed only. Not present in the finished oil.

How it works

Softening care: As a cosmetic emollient, the named oil can smooth the feel of dry skin. Emollient means a substance that softens and smooths the surface. Hair finish: A suitable oil preparation can coat the hair shaft, improving slip and adding a conditioned appearance.

In the tradition

Associated with traditional hair and body-care routines.

A cosmetic oil works mainly at the skin or hair surface.

How to use
  1. 1Warm a small amount between the palms and massage into skin or hair as needed.
  2. 2Use 1–2 times daily.
  3. 3Patch test on a small area before first use.
Suitability
  • Patch-test first.
  • Avoid eyes and discontinue if irritation occurs.
  • Do not ingest a cosmetic product.

For external use only. Patch test before first use, and stop if any irritation develops.
