The plant

Tongkat Ali comes from the root of Eurycoma longifolia, a small tree native to Malaysia and neighbouring parts of Southeast Asia. The root is the part traditionally prepared.

What's in it

The root contains quassinoids, including a well-known compound called eurycomanone. Quassinoids are naturally bitter plant compounds that give the root its deep, earthy character.

How it works

Tongkat Ali’s bitter root compounds make it a warming, stimulating addition to a vitality routine. The herb is traditionally chosen to support energy, stamina and the body’s response to everyday strain. Its plant compounds are also being explored for how they interact with the body’s stress and hormone-signalling systems.

In the tradition

In Malaysian and Indonesian herbal traditions, the root is used as a strengthening tonic for men’s vitality, stamina and physical endurance.

The name Tongkat Ali means "Ali’s walking stick", a reference to the long, woody root traditionally used.
