The plant

The named oil comes from the seeds of Nigella sativa.

What's in it

Fatty acids and thymoquinone, a characteristic natural compound contribute to the ingredient’s texture.

Thymoquinone

The principal marker. Sharp, aromatic, and the reason for cold-pressing.

Para-cymene

A terpene precursor to thymol and carvacrol.

Linoleic acid

The dominant fatty acid, around sixty per cent.

Nigellone

A polymer of thymoquinone, formed on standing.

How it works

Softening care: As a cosmetic emollient, the named oil can smooth the feel of dry skin. Emollient means a substance that softens and smooths the surface. Hair finish: A suitable oil preparation can coat the hair shaft, improving slip and adding a conditioned appearance.

In the tradition

Associated with Middle Eastern and South Asian traditions.

A cosmetic oil works mainly at the skin or hair surface.

How to use
  1. 1Warm a small amount between the palms and massage into skin or hair as needed.
  2. 2Use 1–2 times daily.
  3. 3Patch test on a small area before first use.
Suitability
  • Patch-test first.
  • Avoid eyes and discontinue if irritation occurs.
  • Do not ingest a cosmetic product.

For external use only. Patch test before first use, and stop if any irritation develops.
